Donnell Thompson is a sales executive with the North Beach Plantation at Myrtle Beach in South Carolina. An astute business man, Thompson moved into the world of franchising in 1981 by owning five McDonald restaurants in Georgia, earning the Triple A Owner Operator status and the McDonalds Golden Hat Award. He owned and operated several Marriott and Choice hotel chains in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. He has a strong background in real estate development and construction as a builder of custom homes and residential treatment facilities. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1981 where he served as a student athlete in football. He received honors as an ALL ACC, ALL AMERICAN player. Thompson was drafted into the National Football League by the Baltimore/Indianapolis Colts in 1981 as a first round selection and played for 11 years with honors including Miller Lite Player of the Year, Defense Player of the Year, and Defense Lineman of the Year. He maintains his membership in the National Football Players Association. Thompson was adopted into the Robeson County Hall of Fame. Thompson was elected member of the Town Council for Atlantic Beach, South Carolina, in January 2008. He is married to Carr Thompson, and they have four children and one grand child.
